Rainy Day Activities

Cayman is blessed with having over 360 days a year of sunshine, so rainy days are few and far between. The tropical rains are usually warm and brief however, we’ve come up with a few ideas to ensure they don’t put a dampener on your day.

Indoor Activities

  • Visit Camana Bay and have a mooch around the fantastic shops, maybe even treat yourself to something new! Then catch the latest movie at Camana Bay Cinema and treat yourself to some deliciously warm popcorn.
  • Take the kids to Camp Seafire – Whether you would like to join in on the family fun or enjoy a day to yourself, Camp Seafire at the Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa offers programmes for kids ages 3.5 to 12 every week. For smaller children, they also have a nanny service if, for instance, you are having a treatment at the spa! Call (345) 746 4048.
  • Cook ‘Cayman Style’ – Learn to cook Caribbean cuisine with one of the Island’s acclaimed chefs. The following places offer group cooking classes: The National Trust and Bon Vivant. It is best to enquire if there is available space before attending one of these classes.
  • Sample Beer, Rum or Wine – Take a tour of the Cayman Islands Brewery, sample local beers and learn about the brewing process. Visit Cayman Spirits Company Distillery to see how their handcrafted spirits are made. (345) 925 5379. Try wine tasting at West Indies Wine Company and sample some of the 80 different wines on offer.
  • National Art Gallery – Take in the Cayman Island’s art collection, go to a drop in art class or pick up a ‘Family Fun’ self-guided tour of the gallery, great fun for all the family.
  • The National Museum – Explore Cayman’s unique habitats, take a virtual submarine dive down to Cayman's famous wall, view a turtle nesting site, see the wetlands and learn about Cayman’s animal life. This is a perfect educational adventure for the little ones!
  • Ten Pin Bowling at King’s Sports Centre – challenge your friends or family to see who can be King of the Alley! Call (345) 946 5464.

Outdoor Activities

A little warm rain never hurt anyone and getting out and about in it can be fun for big and little kids alike.

  • Puddle Jumping – as the rains are warm it’s great fun for children to splash around in the puddles. (Editor: As a child growing up in Cayman I have amazing memories of playing in the rain and splashing in puddles with my brother and other children from our neighbourhood!)
  • Swimming, dancing under the Camana Bay fountains and shore fishing in the rain can also be great fun for children on vacation!
  • Taking the Nautilus semi-submarine – the rain doesn’t affect our underwater friends, so look out for turtles and sharks as you are submerged near sites like Cheeseburger Reef, the Cali and the Balboa wrecks.

Afternoon Tea

A sudden downpour is a great excuse to stop for a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Try any of the following:

  • Plan a Mad Tea Party at Anchor & Den, Marriott Beach Resort  - Afternoon Tea with a twist at Anchor & Den! Inspired by the Mad Hatter Tea Party from Alice in Wonderland, it is not your average cup of tea! Enjoy creative tea blends, ever changing “drink me” potions and high tea classics. You must have a table of 10 or more to book the party, which normally happens on Saturdays between 1.30pm-4.30pm.

  • Afternoon Tea at Every Bloomin Thing –  Enjoy warm scones served with strawberry jam and Devonshire cream. The tea shop is nestled in a quiet corner of this florist and gift shop, enjoy a cup of tea while overlooking the garden.
