Due largely to the Cayman Islands’ year-round summery climate, it is ideal for golfing. Even though Cayman is small, world-class facilities are available to players and as a result, golf is a popular, heavily subscribed activity for residents and visitors alike.

Top Tee-off Tip

The North Sound Club offers less expensive twilight rates, so enjoy a round of golf with a drink in hand as the sun sets.

The Cayman Islands has two world-class courses that provide a challenge for golfers of all levels. The North Sound Golf Club, the only 18-hole course in the islands, winds its way through a myriad of golfing challenges, offering panoramic views of the North Sound and the Caribbean Sea. The course is known for its deceptive bunkers, considerable water hazards, and tight fairways, making it a true test of skill.

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, a par-72, 9-hole course, is located just steps from the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman resort. Designed by legendary golfer Greg Norman, the course boasts stunning oceanfront views, undulating narrow fairways, and strategic water hazards. The course is also known for its lush landscaping and manicured greens, making it a true oasis in the heart of Grand Cayman.

At both you can rent equipment, improve your swing with a lesson from the resident pro and take advantage of cheaper twilight rates. Trade winds present exciting challenges for players of all skill sets and it’s not unusual to share your teeing ground with a sunbathing iguana!

Various package rates and memberships are available to residents and visitors, and there are also deals which extend to family.

Extra Exercise

It is possible at certain times to play the North Sound course on foot (no buggy, but a trolley is okay if preferred to carrying clubs), for a bit of extra exercise. Ask at the pro shop.

North Sound Club is an 18-hole course with a driving range and two putting greens. The par-71, 6,605 yard course has a USGA course rating of 73.1. The Caribbean trade winds blowing in from the North Sound amplify the challenging nature of this course, with water featuring on 15 of the 18 holes. Their signature hole, #11, is a long par-3 and is particularly popular for those looking to capture a snapshot of their swing against the picturesque backdrop of the North Sound. Enjoy the vistas and a cool beverage at the open air bar afterwards.

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club offers nine-holes on the Greg Norman designed golf course but is only open to hotel guests and members. With fairways and greens meandering around canals, players are challenged with five long par fours against a steady wind. You can also try their indoor golf simulator that precisely measures impact and ball flight pattern. Choose from 80 virtual courses to play.

Cayman Golf Lab is an indoor golf facility located in George Town. They offer two HD golf simulators and 300sq ft of putting green, as well as golf lessons for adults and children. (345) 546 6786.

Tee time Tip

In high season, book your tee time at least a week in advance, particularly around holidays such as Easter and Christmas, to avoid disappointment.
