Although full PADI certifications are for those aged 15+ there are a number of fun options for younger children wanting to have a go at diving, or be entertained while their parents are exploring the ocean depths:
Bubblemaker – this programme is open to children aged 8+ and allows them to take their first breaths underwater. Carried out in a pool at a maximum depth of 6 feet.
SASY – Supplied Air Snorkelling for Youth is a programme for 5-8 year olds using a regulator and BCD to breathe, while remaining on the surface.
Seal Team – exciting Aquamissions carried out under water in a pool. Ages 8+.
Discover Scuba – open to anyone aged 10 or over, this course entails an introduction to scuba equipment, safety drills and culminates with an open water dive.
SNUBA tour –Breathe underwater at depths of 5-20 feet, with air supplied from a raft on the surface. Participants must be aged 8 or over and be able to swim. A great way to experience the sensation of scuba diving without the need for heavy equipment or any kind of certification.
Helmet Dives – For those with limited swimming ability, specially designed helmets allow them to breathe naturally (even keep hair dry and glasses on) while walking on the sea bed. Accompanied by instructors at all times, participants walk through gardens of coral populated by schools of fish.
