Tuna at Cracked Conch in West Bay

Seafood restaurants in Cayman deliver on both flavour and freshness! With the Caribbean Sea on our door step, there’s always an abundance of freshly caught fish and seafood being offered up across the island, and often your dish is served with an oceanfront view. Read on for some of the best seafood hot spots in the Cayman Islands.

The beloved Cracked Conch, as its name would suggest, offers a selection of conch dishes, including conch chowder, cracked conch and conch ceviche. However, they also serve a variety of other seafood dishes. Think tuna crudo, smoked wahoo tartare, wild shrimp and crab cakes and lots more! If you're dining with someone who's not a lover of fish, they have delicious meat and vegetarian options too.

Editor's Recommendation: Conch Chowder. As a big fan of chowder – and having sampled the dish in places such as Boston and Ireland – I can confidently say that this one is up there with the best. Enjoy red or white (I'd always get white) with warming flavours, local peppers and coconut milk that all come together to deliver a Caribbean celebration of a cosy classic.

One of the newer additions to the West Bay coast is NOVA, a restaurant that fuses Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine to create something unique and delicious.

Editor's Recommendation: Branzino for Two. Not only is this dish beautiful to look at, it's also fresh and tasty. It's a great dish to enjoy by the ocean with a chilled glass of wine to wash it all down.

LUCA's seafood offerings represent all the classics. Local catch, such as snapper, yellowfin tuna and mahi, feature heavily, alongside fresh and flavoursome ingredients. Try their branzino al sale with roasted potatoes and a lemon chardonnay caper sauce – it's delicious!

Editor's Recommendation: Local Yellowfin Tuna. I love this dish! It's served with a celeriac purée, gremolata, arugula and asparagus. It's flavourful and honours local catch by celebrating the freshness of the fish.

Grand Old House have a number of entrees from the sea which feature grouper, salmon, lobster, shrimp, clams, scallops and more. Their catch of the day, served lightly blackened with Cayman-style sauce is always delicious.

Editor's Recommendation: Seafood Curry. Packed with lobster, shrimp, mussels and fresh fish, this one is hard to beat. The coconut gives it a creamy finish but the spice still lingers! It's indulgent and tasty and one of the best curries on the island.

Ragazzi, a local favourite, is not only famed for its pizzas and pastas. Their seafood offerings are also outstanding. With classics like pan-seared snapper and pan-fried branzino, along with seafood risotto and zuppa di pesce, you're sure to find something to take your fancy. Ragazzi also supports ocean-friendly seafood choices, as designated by the local Cayman Sea Sense Programme.

Editor's Recommendation: Seafood Risotto. Another indulgent dish, but why not? The lobster, shrimp and scallop risotto is fringed with lemon olive oil and topped with jumbo shrimp. It's luxurious but you won't be disappointed.

At The Wharf there's great choice when it comes to seafood dishes. The menu showcases everything from giant shrimp and diver sea scallops to Chilean seabass and Caribbean queen conch run down.

Editor's Recommendation: Tiger Shrimp. You can't go wrong with lobster, especially when it's caught locally during lobster season in Cayman. The herb streusel adds some crunch and the mashed potatoes and lemon butter sauce keep it classic.

Tukka East boasts the freshest fish Cayman has to offer every Friday! Located in East End, local fisherman drop of their catch each week and the Tukka Chefs prepare it on their fish filleting station, right on the balcony. It then goes straight from the ocean to your dinner plate! Regular weekly selections include yellowfin tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo and snapper, which are all local favourites!

Editor's Recommendation: Lionfish Tacos. You'll find them on a few menus across the island, but I love the ones at Tukka East. The crunchy cabbage slaw and sweet chilli sauce make them the perfect seaside lunch. You'll also be helping to support Cayman's waters by keeping this invasive species off our pristine reefs!

Calypso Grill is well-known for their delicious fish and seafood cooked simply. They have a fresh catch of the day which you can enjoy sat by the same ocean where the fish was caught.

Editor's Recommendation: Crab Linguine. Everyone has a different favourite dish at Calypso Grill, and mine is the crab linguine. The simplicity of the dish - crab, lemon, chilli, olive oil - is what makes it special. Add the scallops to start and you've got the perfect dinner!

Fancy catching your own fish? Charter a fishing boat!

The nautical theme at Agua lends itself to the wonderful seafood on their menu. From the range of ceviches and fishy antipasti to their tuna crudo tagliatelle and namesake Agua tuna, there's so much to choose from! Also, Agua usually hav specials on oysters, stone crab, snow crabs and more, depending on the local catch.

Editor's Recommendation: Ceviche. I love the fresh, tangy taste of ceviche! Inspired by Peruvian cuisine, it's no surprise that Agua's ceviche is some of the best on Cayman's many menus. It's always fresh catch, often local and you can enjoy it three different ways – or get the trio and try them all!

Morgan's is a local favourite! With a tried and tested menu, people come back time and time again for their ultimate seafood dish, or to try something new. Their fresh, local catch of the day is always sublime.

Editor's Recommendation: Fresh Local Catch of the Day. Whether it's red snapper or mahi mahi, this dish really encapsulates the Cayman Islands. Request how you'd like it cooked (I always get blackened for the tasty flavours!) and enjoy the delicious accompaniments – the potatoes is comes with are second to none!
