Who Read This

Accommodation options in Cayman generally fall into three categories: Large resorts, condominiums and villas, and guest houses/boutique hotels.

Major resorts along Seven Mile Beach include the Ritz-Carlton, the Marriott Beach Resort, Westin Beach Resort, Kimpton Seafire, Sunshine Suites, Comfort Suites and the Margaritaville Resort. The Wyndham Reef Resort and Morritt’s Tortuga are located at the eastern end of Grand Cayman.

There are numerous condominium complexes where units can be rented along Seven Mile Beach as well as along South Sound and in the Eastern Districts. Condo complexes are usually set in well tended gardens with swimming pools and often tennis courts and gyms. Private villas can also be rented in various locations throughout the islands. Contact Cayman Villas for listings.

There are a handful of intimate guest houses/bed and breakfasts and boutique style hotels for those who prefer a more personal touch.

Little Cayman and Cayman Brac also have some interesting options for accommodation. See later in this page for more information.

Grand Cayman - Super Luxury
In the super luxury bracket Cayman is lucky enough to have the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman which has an enviably beautiful beach right in front of the hotel, along with great restaurants and lots of style. Also in this category is the Caribbean Club which has a nice pool and beautiful beach and an extremely good restaurant called Luca. The latter are large, stunningly decorated condos with a concierge service and within walking distance of a very good supermarket.

Grand Cayman - Luxury
Only slightly down from the super-luxury resorts listed above we have the Kimpton Seafire and the Marriott Beach Resort. Both are located right on the beach and have very good restaurants. The beach at the Marriott is good though rather short.

Grand Cayman - Mid-range
In the mid-priced, mid-range hotel offerings there is the Comfort Suites and Sunshine Suites. Neither are on the beach but both are very popular particularly with business travellers and those moving to the Island to work (many of the accounting and law firms give their new staff one months accommodation in either place). Neither are on the beach. Both have great locations on the Seven Mile strip though, along with a restaurant each (Stingers and Sunshine Grill) that are both known for their well priced and delicious food. Lastly there is Holiday Inn Resort which faces the North Sound. It has a restaurant on-site and a great pool. It is also right next to the very good North Sound Golf Club.

Grand Cayman - Smaller Resorts & Condos
All along Seven Mile Beach there are 25+ condominium complexes most of which offer daily rentals in 2 or 3 bedroom condos. You can find everything from the brand new and extraordinarily luxurious to the more tired but very cost effective. There are also a few resorts nearer George Town including Coral Sands Resort (walking distance to town and a grocery store) and Sunset House (mostly for divers).

There are a couple of companies that specialise in renting private homes whether a condo, villa or 2 to 5 bedroom homes. Almost always they are on the beach. One option is Cayman Villas (+1 345 945 4144, +1 800 235 5888) who rent nicely decorated, fully-equipped houses and condos on the beach everywhere from Seven Mile Beach to Cayman Kai and Little Cayman. Each villa must be rented for a two night minimum and many come with kayaks, snorkelling equipment, BBQs and games to entertain kids. All you have to do is bring food and drinks!

Grand Cayman - Places off the Beaten Path
For those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of George Town and Seven Mile Beach then a great option is to head east. Heading east the best four options which come to mind are The Wyndham Reef Resort and Morritt's Tortuga Resort, which are both timeshare resorts but which are happy to rent you a studio, 1 or 2 bedroom condo (on the beach) for a few nights or more. Alternatively there is Turtle Nest Inn which is located on the beach in Bodden Town or The Retreat at lookout Farm, also in the district of Bodden Town. The latter is an historic Caymanian-owned bed and breakfast featuring eight rooms nestled on 20 acres of fruit orchards, shade houses and tropical gardens. If it is peace, bird song and nature walks then this is the place for you! Email reservations@retreatlookout.com to book a room. At the other end of the Island in the heart of West Bay, off Sticky Toffee Lane there is a very nice bed and breakfast called Shangri-La. You can walk to two very good restaurants from there including Calypso Grill and Catch.

Cayman Brac
There are a variety of places to stay in Cayman Brac and each come with bicycles for guests to potter about on and explore. Le Soleil d'Or is a luxury hotel or there is the Brac Reef Beach resort which has the only dive operator on the Island and has four and a half acres of beachfront. Alternatively there is Carib Sands Beach Resort which offers one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments for rent.

Little Cayman
There are some truly great options for accommodation in little Cayman: There is the Southern Cross Club which has quaint and very stylish little villas on the beach along with great food and a very small-hotel/club-house type of atmosphere. There is Pirates Point which is famous for its fabulous food and warm convivial atmosphere. Also on the small hotel/resort front there is the Little Cayman Beach Resort and Paradise Villas. Both have pools, hammocks, bicycles for guests to use and a nice chilled-out relaxed atmosphere. Alternatively you can rent a private villas through Cayman Villas.

Note on Camping
