Atlantis Submarines Atlantis Submarines also operate a glass bottomed boat/semi-submarine called the Seaworld Observatory, that explores Cayman's fish and coral life, whilst remaining on the surface. The Seaworld Observatory was designed and built specifically for Atlantis Submarines for viewing the shallow reefs around Grand Cayman. This is the perfect trip for anyone who wants to experience Cayman's underwater world but doesn't want to go too deep under the sea. Guests simply descend into the observatory and sit in air-conditioned comfort five feet below the surface. During the tour, the guide gives an informative commentary, answering any questions.
The first site you will visit is a dramatic shipwreck, the Cali, a steel schooner built in 1900. The Cali ran aground 100 yards off the coast of Grand Cayman in 1944. From here, your captain takes you to Cheeseburger Reef, where a diver enters the water and feeds hundreds of multi-coloured tropical fish right in front of your window. Finally, you will hear more tales of the high seas as the Observatory moves to the wreck of the Balboa, a 375ft freighter that sank in a hurricane in 1932.
