Rainy Day Activities in Cayman

Cayman is blessed with having over 360 days a year of sunshine, so rainy days are few and far between. The tropical rains are usually warm and brief however, we’ve come up with a few ideas to ensure they don’t put a dampener on your day.

Indoor activities

There are plenty of indoor activities to keep everyone entertained. Here are just a few examples but you can find more in the Best Family FunFree Things to Do and Best Cultural Activities sections.

  • Visit Camana Bay and have a mooch around the fantastic shops, maybe even treat yourself to something new! Then catch the latest movie at the Camana Bay Cinema and treat yourself to some deliciously warm popcorn.
  • Check out the Cool Cars at the Cayman Motor Museum (open November-May). Take a historical tour of the motoring world and see over 80 vintage cars including Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Jaguars and more.
  • Cook ‘Cayman Style’ Learn to cook Caribbean cuisine with one of the Island’s acclaimed chefs. The following places offer group cooking classes: The Lighthouse Restaurant, The National Trust and Bon Vivant.
  • Sample Beer, Rum or Wine Take a tour of the Cayman Islands Brewery, sample local beers and learn about the brewing process. Visit Cayman Spirits Company Distillery to see how their handcrafted spirits are made. (345) 925 5379. Try wine tasting at West Indies Wine Company and sample some of the 80 different wines on offer.
  • National Art Gallery – Take in the Cayman Island’s art collection, go to a drop in art class or pick up a ‘Family Fun’ self-guided tour of the gallery, great fun for all the family.
  • Ten Pin Bowling at King’s Sports Centre – challenge your friends or family to see who can be King of the Alley! Call (345) 946 5464.

Outdoor activities

A little warm rain never hurt anyone and getting out and about in it can be fun for big and little kids alike.

  • Puddle Jumping – as the rains are warm it’s great fun for children to splash around in the puddles. (Editor: As a child growing up in Cayman I have amazing memories of playing in the rain and splashing in puddles with my brother and other children from our neighbourhood!)
  • Swimming, dancing under the Camana Bay fountains and shore fishing in the rain can also be great fun for children on vacation!
  • Taking an Atlantis Submarine ride – the rain doesn’t affect our underwater friends so look out for turtles and sharks as you are submerged near the great wall.

Afternoon Tea

A sudden downpour is a great excuse to stop for a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Try any of the following:

  • Full of Beans – a cozy and comfortable café that serves fantastic coffee and sweet treats. If you fancy something savoury they have creative daily specials and a variety of vegetarian options. They have an ever changing selection of art on the walls which you can enjoy with a glass of wine or beer in hand. Call (345) 814 0157.
  • Afternoon Tea at The Ritz Carlton or at Anchor & Den – the perfect opportunity to dress up and experience a quintessential English tradition – try their amazing teas, pastries and finger sandwiches. Adults can enjoy theirs with a glass of bubbly while there is a Kids Tea for the little ones. Call (345) 943 9000.

Indulge yourself

Why not get that massage, pedicure or facial you’ve been promising yourself or drop into a yoga or Pilates class to re-change your batteries. Check out the following places:

  • Yoga – At Bliss you will find classes to suit all abilities. For the novice there is Beginners Yoga or the more advanced can sweat it out at one of the Powers classes.
