Who Read This

West Bay is a charming, mostly residential district with winding roads, pretty Caribbean–style homes and some of Cayman’s most popular attractions including the Cayman Turtle Farm. It also has some great restaurants and is definitely worth a visit.


While there are a number of resorts and condos in West Bay. Divers might like Cobalt Coast (345) 946 5656, and those on a tighter budget might consider Shangri–La bed and breakfast (345) 526 1170.

• Cycle Miles of Trails with West Bay Loop Coastal Bike Trail. Rent bicycles or join a group tour for a gentle cycle along stunning coastal roads and country backroads. 


• Encounter Wildlife and Nature at the Cayman Turtle Centre. Here you can swim with turtles and other colourful marine life in Turtle Lagoon, take a walk down the historic Cayman Street and visit exotic birds in the Caribbean Aviary. There is also a Nature Trail, two lagoons, waterfalls and a Predator Tank where sharks, a large barracuda and other fascinating marine predators live! And of course you can meet the turtles, which range from tiny hatchlings to adults over 600 pounds. Don’t miss the chance to pick one up out of the touch tank or participate in turtle feeding! They now offer a courtesy shuttle bus from locations on SMB to the Turtle Centre. • Explore Barkers National Park and get away from it all on a deserted beach. Located at the very north eastern end of West Bay, you might see people kitesurfing off the beach and others horseback riding, but the area is large enough to find a spot where you won’t be disturbed all day. Please note though there are no facilities, little shade and the entire area closes at dusk.


• Get Underwater and explore some great shore dives/snorkel spots. Turtle Reef is just off the Cracked Conch restaurant and has a mini wall with lots of fish, vibrant coral and a cave where huge tarpon love to hang out. You can rent equipment below the restaurant at Sundivers (345) 949 6606, jump in for a snorkel or dive, then have lunch at Cracked Conch or Macabuca. Another shore dive is just down the road at Divetech’s Lighthouse Point (345) 949 1700. Don’t miss the 13ft statue of the mythological creature “Guardian of the Reef” which makes a great underwater photo.


•  Learn to Kitesurf with Kitesurf Cayman (345) 916 5483. A phenomenal experience that gets the heart and adrenalin pumping.


• Go Horseback Riding along Barkers Beach with Spirit of the West, a wonderful horseback riding company. Choose from morning, afternoon, sunset or moonlight rides on their happy and well looked after horses. You can even swim with the horses in the sea for a truly unique Caribbean experience. • Swim with a Dolphin in one of two dolphin parks in Cayman where you can learn about, interact with, swim with, kiss and stroke these beautiful creatures. You can even be a dolphin trainer for a day. Call either Dolphin Cove (345) 623 2683 or Dolphin Discovery (345) 769 (7946).


• Take a Trip to Hell and take the opportunity to send your friends a “postcard from HELL”! Hell got its name from the quarter acre of blackened calciferous rock in this area, but unless you are a geology student don’t expect to spend more than 10 minutes here. Entry is free.


• Visit the Cayman Motor Museum - The Cayman Motor Museum showcases 80 classic automobiles, providing a historical tour of motoring throughout the world. Also on display is a selection of motorcycles, power boats and historical exhibits. There is a large Foster’s Food Fair grocery store right at the start of West Bay, plus a bank, pharmacy and Subway at the four–way stop. Gift shops can be found at the Cayman Turtle Farm and the Cayman Motor Museum. You can also find locals selling beautifully varnished conch shells along the side of the road which make great souvenirs.





Casual Dining

A casual and unpretentious seafood restaurant on the water with amazing views of Seven Mile Beach. The Caribbean themed food is simple, very good and inexpensive. (345) 947 2525


Heritage Kitchen

An authentic Caymanian restaurant serving large portions of delicious food at a reasonable price. Enjoy your food at the restaurant or take it and sit on the sea wall opposite and enjoy the stunning view. (345) 916 0444.


Macabuca Oceanside Bar & Grill

Located below the Cracked Conch restaurant. It has fabulous views of the sea, a relaxed atmosphere and a great happy hour on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays.

VIVO Café & Restaurant

Offers delicious plant based food with gluten-free options. Located at the Lighthouse Point. (345) 924 7804.

Elegant Dining
Calypso Grill
Located right on the water at Morgan’s Harbour, you can watch frigate birds soaring in the sky and boats laze at anchor while enjoying a great atmosphere and superb seafood. You must make a reservation, even for lunch. Closed on Mondays. (345) 949 3948



Located in Morgan’s Harbour, this waterfront restaurant serves delicious fresh seafood with international and Caribbean influences. The dock receives a lovely cooling breeze. Fantastic cocktails and great brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. They also celebrate the full moon each month with live music.

Cracked Conch
Across the road from the Cayman Turtle Farm, with breathtaking views of the water. You can have a casual lunch or elegant dinner outside on the terrace or in air conditioned comfort. Their Caribbean–fusion food is always innovative. (345) 945 5217.


Ristorante Pappagallo
Great Italian food and an award winning wine list. The tall thatched building, right on a lake, is beautiful. (345) 949 1119.
